Newman’s Birds of Southern Africa by Kenneth Newman
The South African classic, now revised and updated according to the latest research- which has resulted in the addition of 46 new species. The colour-coded pages make for easy group identification - and I reckon has done heaps for making this one of the most favoured field guides amongst the twitchers (that and its tightly-fitting clearn PVC cover). There’s a useful step-by-step introduction to using the book in the field and the illiustrations are bold, clear and uncluttered.
